sBooks is unique because it makes reading an interactive experience. sBooks allows you to create or join groups and from there read other user’s input and add your own. sBooks also has a sophisticated search engine that allows you to search through books easily for a wide number of subjects. If you’re a writer you can publish your work at sBooks for free!
A gloss is a note, link or tag placed in an sBook.
An overlay is a collection of glosses placed throughout an sBook. This allows the user to view a book with a collection of notes, links or tags created by a different user.
If you want to view another sBooks user’s overlay, go to the book you’d like to check out overlays for and click Overlays on the top of the page.
The search engine sBooks uses is unique because it combs through the material of each book and gives users a list of words or phrases to search for. These words or phrases are known as knodules, and are developed through a collection of disambiguated terms, or dterms, which differ depending on their context. Even more exciting, users can create their own glosses which are then added to that specific search for anyone viewing their overlay.
sBooks is free to use! Certain books may cost money, but there is no charge to use the site.
sBooks are available to read through the internet, on your mobile phone or
on a Kindle or Nook!!
When you’re part of an sBooks reading circle you have unlimited access to all of the content that has been noted about that book publicly by members of the circle. You will also be able to add your own content to share with other members of the circle.
Creating a community is done by clicking overlays within a book, then clicking the invite tab. Choose who you’d like to be in your reading circle for a certainbook, or tribe for a group of books, by using the web reader. These communities can be made up of Facebook friends, e-mail contacts or any group of people youchoose.
All you have to do to customize the font or style of an sBook is click Settings from within an sBook and choose your preference. If you’d like to highlight a certain passage for future use, click on the passage you wish to highlight and press the + icon that shows up on the top of the page.
Publishing is easy and free at sBooks. You are able to publish any material you’d like, as long as it is your literary property. All you have to do is convert an html file of your book into an sBooks readable format. This can be done using the conversion tool. For more information about publishing, click here.
